What is the Westmoreland County Forum for Workforce Development?

 The Westmoreland County Forum for Workforce Development (the Forum) is a collaboration of school districts, in Westmoreland and surrounding Counties, business and industry, higher education, economic development organizations and others.  The goal of the Forum is to create pathways for all students into meaningful careers in the region.  The Forum partner organizations have strong desire to better address regional quality workforce needs of business and industry and how improved communication and collaboration can be cultivated and developed between education and business entities to address the needs of the new economy.

 

What is the Career Hub?

 The Career Hub is a web-based platform that connects schools and businesses in order for students to gain valuable work-based learning experiences including but not limited to job shadowing, internships, externships, and apprenticeships.  In additional the web-based platform will serve as a database that can be easily accessed to engage employers in meaningful school based activities such as career fairs, classroom speakers and bringing hands-on learning activities into the classroom.

 

Who has access to the Career Hub?

 Students, parents, teachers and businesses have access to the Career Hub.

 

 How do I sign-up for the Career Hub?

 Go to www.careerhubconnect.comand click on the sign up button on the home page.

Do I have to be approved to use the Career Hub?

 Yes, you need to be approved to have full access to the Career Hub. Businesses received approval through the Forum’s director. When you initially sign up for the hub, your request will be routed to the appropriate individual for approval. You will receive an e-mail with your approval status and further directions on accessing the Career Hub.

Do students need to be approved to use the Career Hub? 

 Yes the school district approves students prior to having access to opportunities on the Career Hub.  In addition, each school district will have a Career Hub liaison who will advise students on appropriate opportunities and monitor interactions with the businesses.

 What types of opportunities can I post on the Career Hub?

 You can post a variety of opportunities from job shadowing, internships, apprenticeships, cooperative education experiences.  In addition you can post your willingness to participate in career fairs, as a classroom speaker or provide classroom hands-on learning activities.  These opportunities are in all industries.   All opportunities are vetted by the Forum’s director.

Do I have to pay to participate in the HUB?

 No the Career Hub is free to all users.

Does a student need to live in the district where the business is located to participate? 

 

No, all opportunities are open to any student regardless of their school district.
